How to Join an Online Class Meeting using Google Meet for Online Learners (Step-by-step tutorial with images)

What is Google Meet?

Google is bringing enterprise-grade video conferencing to the masses. Anyone with a Google Account may now host an online meeting with up to 100 attendees that can last up to 60 minutes.

Using a computer or a mobile device, you can join a video meeting for distant learning. You can join the meeting in a variety of ways, including by a link or a nickname, depending on how the meeting is set up.

If your teacher or the meeting organizer shared a meeting nickname, you use the nickname to join the meeting.

Join Online Class Meeting in Google Meet using a Computer

1. Using your web browser, open Google Meet by typing the web address https://meet.google.com.
   
   
   
2. Click the sign in button in the upper right portion of the screen. 
   
   
   
3. Sign in with your school or personal account. If you don't have a google account, you may create using this link: How to create or register a Google Account for Google Classroom and Google Meet Use (Step-by-step tutorial with images)
   
   
   
4. Enter the password associated with your account. 
   
   
   
5. If you’re already signed in and need to switch accounts, click the account icon and then select "add another account" or select another account on the list.
   
   
   
6. Enter the meet code or meeting nickname given by your teacher and click the Join button to continue.
   
   
   
7. Google Meet needs to access your webcam and microphone. You need to click the "Allow" and "Dismiss" 
   
   
   
8. It is appropriate to disable first your webcam and microphone so that the class won't be disturbed while you joined in. 

   

   
   
9. Finally, click the Ask to join button to signify to your teacher that you want to join the meeting.

   

   
   
10. Once your teacher accepted your request, you will see this window. 

    
11. Congratulations! You are now in the meeting. You can always unmute and open your web camera when you are allowed or when you are participating in the class discussion.

Join an Online Class Meeting using a Smartphone

1. Download and install Google Meet app from Playstore or Appstore. 
   
   
   
2. Open the Google Meet app  on your device.
3. Select your correct Google Account. If you have not logged in your account, tap the Add Account 

   

   
   
4. Enter your username. 

   

   
   
5. Enter your password. 

   

   
   
6. The Google Meet welcome screen appears. Tap Continue. 

   

   
   
7. Allow your device to take pictures and record videos. 

   

   
   
8. Allow your device to record audio. 

   

   
   
9. Now the Google Meet app is finally open. Tap the Join with the code to join an online class meeting. 

   

   
   
10. Enter the Google Meet code given by your teacher. Tap Join to continue.

    
11. It is important to Turn off your microphone and your camera first before you join in the Meeting. Tap the Ask to join to continue. 

    

    
    
12. Once your teacher approves your identity, your app will change its view same as the image below. 

    

    
    
13. Congratulations! You are now in the meeting. You can always unmute and open your camera when you are allowed or when you are participating in the class discussion.
